Simple Care, Big Impact: Unilab's 80 Years

0
What makes a real difference? Often, it's the small things: a kind touch, a helpful word, or a simple act of love. These little things can change lives in ways we don't always see. This is what Unilab's 80th birthday is about: "sa simpleng alaga, malaki ang nagagawa" (simple care makes a big impact).

Care isn't about big actions. It's about the effect it has. A mom's hand on a sick child helps them feel better. Neighbors helping with chores gets them done faster. A kid helping someone cross the street keeps them safe. A teacher's words push a student to try harder. A doctor's talk gives hope to a patient. A friend's call makes a bad day better. These small moments of "alaga" (care) change people, families, and communities.
"For 80 years, Unilab has worked to bring healthcare to Filipinos. But care is more than medicine. It's in the small things," says Alexander S. Panlilio of Unilab. "This celebration is about how Filipinos show care, from doctors to parents and friends."

Stories of Care
Behind every success are people who showed care.

Dr. Reinerio Prieto's story shows this. His mom, a teacher, took good care of him. She supported his dreams and was there for him.

"My mom was strong. Even when I became a doctor, I got strength from her. It wasn't big things. It was small things: a nod, a pat, her smile. When I was sick, she cared for me. The food she made for me. These small things helped me," says Dr. Prieto.

His mom's care pushes him to help people in medical missions. He knows care can change lives. He treats patients knowing they care for others. This care started with his mom and now he shares it.

"Medical missions show how many places lack medicine and help," says Dr. Prieto. "As doctors, we know we make a difference. I give my full attention to each patient. I talk to them and explain things. People are scared to ask questions. I tell them to ask questions."

Dr. Rei remembers the power of simple care. "Like my mom, people who show care should be remembered. Their impact lives on. It's inspiring. I hope many Filipinos are inspired to make a difference," says Dr. Prieto.
Pass Care Forward
Care is not just receiving. We need to pass it on. "Sa simpleng alaga, malaki ang nagagawa" is Unilab's message and a call to everyone to help make the world better. No act of care is too small. A kind word or helping hand can go a long way. We all can make a difference through simple care. Like Dr. Prieto's story, every story of care matters. It can change lives and communities.
