HUAWEI has unveiled the Pura X in China, a vertical foldable smartphone with a unique 16:10 widescreen design.
On March 20, HUAWEI officially launched the Pura X in China, a foldable smartphone that stands out with its unique design and widescreen display. Unlike traditional flip-style foldable phones, the Pura X offers a wider form factor, allowing it to be used both horizontally and vertically. This approach enhances the viewing experience while maintaining a compact and portable design.

The cover screen measures 3.5 inches with a 980 x 980 resolution, delivering up to 2500 nits of peak brightness. It features a 1×1 aspect ratio and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, thanks to its LTPO panel. HDR vivid content support ensures that visuals remain crisp and vibrant. Above the cover screen, the phone houses a quad-camera system, including a 50MP f/1.6 RYYB main sensor, a 3.5X optical zoom lens, a 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a dedicated color sensor for enhanced image accuracy.
When unfolded, the Pura X reveals a 6.3-inch 16:10 widescreen display with a resolution of 2120×1320 pixels. It maintains the same 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate and 2500 nits of peak brightness, making it a strong choice for content consumption, gaming, and productivity. The internal screen provides a 30% larger viewing area than traditional 16:9 ratio displays, significantly improving usability.
HUAWEI offers the Pura X in a variety of finishes, including Moon Shadow Gray, Zero Degree White, Phantom Night Black, and two exclusive collector’s editions. This gives users more choices to match their style preferences.

According to Yu Chengdong, Executive Director and Chairman of HUAWEI Consumer BG, the wide-screen format of the Pura X offers several advantages over standard smartphones. It enhances the viewing experience for online content, increasing the visible area by 40% for short videos and by 60% for images and text. This makes it particularly appealing for users who consume a lot of media or require a larger display for productivity tasks.

Running on HarmonyOS 5, the Pura X benefits from a reworked kernel, an improved Ark engine, and full integration with HUAWEI's cloud ecosystem. Performance is reportedly improved by up to 40% compared to the previous version of HarmonyOS. The phone also incorporates AI-driven features powered by HUAWEI's Pangu large model in collaboration with DeepSeek dual models. These AI capabilities include an advanced voice assistant and AI eye-movement tracking, allowing users to turn pages on-screen with just their eye movements.

The Pura X is equipped with a 4720mAh battery, supporting 66W wired super-fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging. This ensures users can stay powered throughout the day with minimal downtime.

HUAWEI has priced the Pura X starting at 7,499 yuan for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. With its innovative design, powerful AI features, and enhanced display, the Pura X sets itself apart in the competitive foldable phone market. As foldable technology continues to evolve, HUAWEI's latest offering could shape the future of smartphone displays and user interactions.
