UNIQLO Philippines and the ABS-CBN Foundation (AFI) are making waves in marine conservation with their Citizen Science Program 2024. This collaborative effort aims to empower the coastal community of Mabini, Batangas, and ensure a sustainable future for both the environment and its people.

A Commitment to Sustainability
The partnership highlights UNIQLO's dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and fostering environmental and social responsibility. AFI's Citizen Science Program, spearheaded by their environmental arm Bantay Kalikasan, empowers communities through collaboration with scientists.

Mabini Takes Center Stage
Launched in May 2024, the initiative engages Mabini residents in various marine protection activities with the guidance of AFI's scientific network. Through the program, community members will receive training in monitoring coral reefs and marine protected areas. Additionally, the program will develop a community-managed Natural Resources Management plan, alongside a household waste management system and livelihood opportunities for the participating residents.

A Partnership for a Brighter Future
The official signing of the Memorandum of Agreement took place on May 30th, 2024, at the UNIQLO Global Flagship Store in Glorietta 5, Manila. Representatives from both organizations were present, including ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Roberta L. Lopez-Feliciano, ABS-CBN Foundation Bantay Kalikasan Program Officer in Charge Sarah A. Agcaoili, and UNIQLO Philippines Chief Operating Officer Ms. Geraldine Sia.

Harnessing the Power of Collaboration
UNIQLO Philippines Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Geraldine Sia, emphasized the program's significance during the signing ceremony: "This partnership reaffirms UNIQLO's commitment to harnessing the Power of Clothing to contribute to the preservation of the environment for generations to come. Through the Citizen Science program, we can equip communities not just with the knowledge and capacity to help preserve the environment, but also provide opportunities that can help them with their livelihoods."

By working together, UNIQLO Philippines and ABS-CBN Foundation are empowering the Mabini community to become stewards of their environment, ensuring a healthy marine ecosystem for years to come.
