Following closely behind was Sigrid Andrea Bernardo's "Pushcart Tales," which garnered four awards, including Best Director and the Jury's Prize. In the student short film category, Ronjay-C Mendiola's thought-provoking "Last Shift" emerged as the night's most decorated film, receiving five awards, including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Diezelle C. Masilungan's "Kung Nag-aatubili" also impressed with a total of four wins, including Best Director and a tie for Best Supporting Actor.
Esteemed Juries and Additional Recognitions
A distinguished panel of judges ensured a fair and rigorous selection process. Renowned filmmakers Victor Villanueva, Emmanuel dela Cruz, and Lito Zulueta evaluated the short films, while Jeffery Jeturian, Mae Cruz-Alviar, and June Kim deliberated on the full-length entries. Festival directors Ivy Hayagan-Piedad and Chris Cahilig, along with Republic Creative's Lyle Gonzales, played a crucial role by participating in both juries.
Adding further weight to the awards, representatives from festival partners MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board) and Mowelfund (Movie Workers Welfare Foundation) presented special citations to films that resonated with their specific areas of focus. "Smokey Journey," "Tiil ni Lola," and "Kung Nag-aatubili" took home the top three spots in the MTRCB's Responsableng Paglikha (Responsible Creation) category, while "Under a Piaya Moon" received recognition in the full-length category. Mowelfund also awarded special citations and scholarships to ten promising student filmmakers, nurturing their careers and fostering the future of Philippine cinema.
The Puregold CinePanalo Awards Night stands as a testament to the vibrancy and depth of Filipino filmmaking. By recognizing outstanding achievements and nurturing new talents, the event serves as a catalyst for continued growth and innovation in the local film scene.
