Earlier tonight, Acer Philippines launched their newest campaign, #TimeForUs at Yes Please in BGC. The newest and hippest bar in the Metro. Acer launched a movement that is an effort to narrow the gap between Gen Xers and today's millennials. Through there may be some similarities, lets face it, there is a gap and a couple of differences. With this movement, Acer wants to connect and bring two different generations closer through Acer technology.
During the night, Acer Philippines transformed the Yes Please Bar into a nostalgic wonderland reminiscent of the 80s and 90s, but peppered with today’s technology. A symbolism of – old school arcades paired with Acer’s latest laptops, music sets that shifted from old school beats to modern pop, and an overall aesthetic that brought out the best from both eras.
Acer Philippines also announced the partnership of Acer Philippines and G-Shock which is part of the campaign. Excited to read G-Shock? I am! The last partnership Acer had was with New Balance for their Swift line. Now why G-Shock? G-Shock is a brand that spanned both the Gen X and millennial which continues to be popular until today.
Sue Ong-Lim, Sales and Marketing Director of Acer Philippines shares, “At Acer, we believe that it’s time to focus on bridging the generation divide, it’s imperative that we see that, amidst the differences between Gen Xers and millennials, they are also a lot alike.”
The #TimeForUs promo, where every purchase of qualifying Acer laptops entitles its buyers to a G-Shock watch, which they may claim in any of Acer’s service centers in Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
One of the highlights that night is the appearance of rock musician Basti Artadi and also spoken word artist Juan Miguel Severo. Now they may be in different fields, but both an artistic icon of their craft and time. For this campaign, they collaborated together developing a musical and spoken word piece to drive the message of Acer. Together, they debuted the “Time For Us” - the musical-and-spoken word piece created by Basti Artadi and Juan Miguel Severo. Basti Artadi pumped up the crowd with his roaring voice as Juan Miguel Severo, representative of the millennials, spewed compelling words; together, they delivered a powerful performance which was symbolic of two generations uniting. It was actually pretty cool!
Basti Artadi, who is the vocalist of the award winning rock band Wolfgang, rose to fame in the mid-to late-90s making him a legend among those form Gen X. Juan Miguel Severo is famous for his spoken word poetry pieces which he also popularized. One of his original pieces "Ito Na Ang Huling Tula Na Isusulat Ko Para Sa’yo” made rounds on social media and made viral among the millennials. Since then, it cemented the admiration of spoken word poetry as an art form and since then, Juan Miguel Severo has become the face of the craft.
“G-Shock, Basti Artadi, and Juan Miguel Severo are with us in aspiring to bring the Gen X and millennial generation together,” says Ray Gozon, Senior Marketing Manager of Acer Philippines. “With their help, we are optimistic that we will ultimately be able to succeed.”
