ParaNorman: Movie Review

I was able to catch the advance screening of ParaNorman Sunday morning. Yeah I don't usually wake up early for movies but I guess this was an exception. If you haven't seen the trailer I suggest you do. :) Check it out below or on my previous post about it here

ParaNorman comes from the same studio as the movie Coraline, but yet this one holds its own. With great animation and comedy bits. However, the movie covers pretty much some sensitive issues that some parents might have. Like rude languages, some issues on bullying, dryly joking about 'sex and violence', crude humor like insults and other sexual reference.

But even with those barely scratching the surface, ParaNorman is still a good (stop motion) animation movie. Using the 'witch hunt' card, the movie still have instilled the importance of "Not letting fear, change who we are"  Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Simple and yet we forget these things.

The bully Alvin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) & Neil’s musclebound older brother Mitch (Casey Affleck)
deeply superficial older sister Courtney (Anna Kendrick) and spacey mother (Leslie Mann)
11-year-old Norman Babcock (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee)

ParaNorman is a touching film about finding your purpose, acceptance and forgiveness. Pair it with a gorgeous vibrant animation and cleverly used 3D effects, then you have yourself a classic. A good predecessor to Coraline I might say. :)

“ParaNorman” will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 3, Trinoma, Market! Market!, Alabang Town Center) starting Sept. 5.

I rate the movie 3.5 out of 5. Great movie!
