“People Like Us,” is a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Sam played by Chris Pine who is a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman. He finds his latest deal collapsing on the same day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family.
In the course of fulfilling his father’s last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside-down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie (Banks) whom he never knew about. As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about his family—and re-examine his own life choices in the process.
Alex Kurtzman directs the film from a screenplay written by Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jody Lambert. “People Like Us” marks Kurtzman’s feature-film directorial debut. The movie also stars Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Michael Hall D’Addario, Philip Baker Hall, Mark Duplass and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Chris Pine was ok on the spy versus spy movie "This Means War" and Elizabeth Banks is always as charming and a promising actress. The material is well written and the plot / story is not ordinary. I do hope this lives up as the trailer promises. I would expect others to feel a little touchy and home-y to this family movie concept.
Opening soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas, “People Like Us” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International through Columbia Pictures. You may check out the trailer below.
