Don't you ever get tired of another Nicholas Sparks adaptation to a movie? Well, I don't know, I am not sure how many movies I've watch that came from Mr. Sparks' books but it seems that this movie won't be your reason for you to get tired.
It stars Logan (Zac Efron) who is on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan where he almost died. The thing that saved him was the picture he picked up which caused him to leave the ambushed area. Upon returning home, he decided to search for this girl in the picture that saved him.
He then finds a kennel owned by Beth (Taylor Schilling and her grandmother, Ellie (Blythe Danner) and landing a job there. (Predictable? Naaahhh) Logan has always had a hard time telling her about the photograph he picked up that saved his life. Of course you have to mix in the complication of Beth's ex husband who is a cop in that place and her seven-year old son.
Well, the two of course fell in love. Zac did good job portraying a war hero, manly yet sensitive, has a deep dark secret, a handy man and has this special talent. (playing the piano). This movie is definitely a big step up from his High School Musical days into this serious actor. Well, the movie did show the usual Sparks ingredient, Rival love interest, family problem and themes of death, fate and destiny and many others.
The lead actress wasn't bad either, Schilling displays an easy chemistry with Zac helping sell the love story. Yes, there were steamy scenes from the two. Long passionate smooches with a little restriction. The movie though good may not have the weight or the effect of The Notebook (Sorry, but I can't help but compare it with another Sparks' adaptation which actually worked). Yes the story I felt lacked the emotion and more drama. It isn't too girly-swoony. But the love story is really well-constructed, gives out a feel of fantasy and a dab. May pass for a date movie night and girls might find themselves crying on the last part of the movie. :)
